Rodericks Dental Careers Day for Foundation Dentists
This year’s careers day for FD’s took place on Saturday 23rd March at Rodericks Dental Head Office. A total of 25 FD’s from a number of deaneries joined the Rodericks FD cohort for a fun filled day of lectures and interview training.
Our speakers included:
Shalin Mehra and Cathie Brady our CEO and CCO who spoke about the career pathway within Rodericks. They highlighted the many roles and developmental opportunities within Rodericks. From level 2 accreditation, training towards specialisation, Clinical advisors, Clinical leads, overseas dentist mentoring, Educational supervisor roles with FD training to mention but a few. They also went through the incredible clinical support Rodericks offer’s it associates but also the specific support offered to FD plus 1’s in the early stages of their careers.
Shalin Mehra updated the delegates on the new Dental contract and talked about the invaluable information Rodericks has gained on the new contract proposals from its 7 pilot sites.
Sinal Shah & Munish Gadhri who both started their careers within Rodericks as FD’s and went on to work with Rodericks for a number of years before becoming practice owners. The spoke of the support they received from Shalin Mehra our CEO even when moving on from associates with us to purchasing their first practice.
Sinal and Munish spoke about the importance of CPD and continued development and striking a good work life balance. Difficult in this day and age.
Yovaan Ilangakoon an associate with Rodericks who joined in his year after FD training. Yovaan spoke to the group about his career journey with Rodericks from his role as a regional dentist to associate and now joint venture partner where he is part owner with Rodericks of a private practice in Chalfont St Giles. Yovaan went through a cosmetic consultation and discussed the importance of photography in dentistry and encourage the FD’s to invest in good quality SLR cameras and loupes.
Carlos Clark our Director for Professional Development spoke about working using the principle of the 3 e’s (ethical, effective and enthusiastic) An interactive session where Carlos went through principles of delivering UDA targets and how to give patient options for treatment. The group found the session really useful and went away with a number of useful and practical tips.
Sarju Tank joined Rodericks as an FD and talked about her career pathway from FD to now working as an associate with a special interest in endodontics. Sarju works at our Westminster Practice as an associate and Wallingford Practice where she provides endodontic treatments 2 days a month.
Support on the day was provided by Emily Gibbons from our recruitment team and Alpesh Khetia, Nick Anscombe ,Munish Gadhri and Carlos Clark who all helped with the interview training followed with a round of interviews. 22 of the delegates hoping to go into practice at the end of their FD year had interviews at the end of the day.
Flight to New York
All the names of the delegates who attended will be put into a draw and one lucky delegate will win a return flight to New York. The winner will be announced shortly.
