In Memory of the Three Degrees

Michelle Regis, a dental nurse from our Aldridge practice, will soon be taking on an amazing challenge in memory of a loved one…

“My dad used to play for West Brom football club. As it’s been 40 years since the West Brom team went to China, so the club organised a walk to mark the occasion and raise money for its charity, The Albion Foundation. It is a walk of the Great Wall of China and my dad was interested in going.

“After my dad sadly passed away in January, I decided to take his place and complete the walk in his honour.”

Michelle’s dad – Cyrille Regis – was one of the three hugely celebrated footballers known as the “Three Degrees”. Alongside Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Buxton, he is recognised as a trailblazer in international football, fighting racism and prejudice to pave the way for the multi-cultural teams we have today.

“Brendon Buxton will in fact be joining us on the walk, which is fantastic,” Michelle adds. “I’ve never done anything like this before – I’m hoping my long stride will keep me going! I’ve been walking as much as I possibly can every day in preparation, but I know it’s going to be tough.

“However, I’ll be taking the same path that my dad took 40 years ago and that makes this really special to me. I know my dad will be very proud.”

The Albion Foundation was created to make a measurable, positive difference, raise aspirations and help local people fulfil their potential regardless of age, gender, ethnicity and socio-economic backgrounds. It does this through an alternative education centre, which works with children on the verge of exclusion or who have been excluded. It also runs a disability sport programme with high quality adapted sports coaching enabling people of all abilities to participate. In addition, the Foundation works with local schools to develop sporting opportunities for students and it has even started working overseas to expand its reach through its “Pass it Forward” initiative.

A truly worthy cause and an inspirational story, please help Michelle raise as much as she can by donating whatever you can at
